If it wasn't for bad luck, we wouldn't have luck at all - August 18, 2008

This post is for Steve, who begged that I recount the Good Friday as of now for the Gypsy West....
.
From the beginninng....

Nine Thirty Eight AM

I awake at Steve's, hung over and grouchy, wake Steve up and we make our ways to get ready for our intended travel down to NYC for the show. The original plan; to get a U-haul from Cambridge with a 10am reservation, pack Steve's shit up and the instruments and drive them down. The reality?

Ass-hauls

In short, Steve got ignored more than an environmental protection bill in Congress. He went to Cambridge, just to wait for an hour, then to be told that he needed to go to the U-haul fucknuts on Mass Ave in the South End, who then told him he didnt have a reservation. By 130pm, Steve had made it back to his place where we loaded up that gas guzzling piece of shit and were on our way, complete with smoked almonds and green tea.

Bad Radio

Traffic, traffic, traffic. Because we got such a late start, all we basically did was sit in traffic. THANKS U-HAUL! We didnt have a gig to get to our anything.....nope. Oh wait, yes we did. We went on at 9. But, leaving from Boston at 2pm and getting to a gig in NYC at 9 should be fine no matter what the traffic right?

Wrong

After re-grouping, re-loading a new car and attempting to return the U-haul, the Gypsy West were on the road to rock. Only, it was 640 pm. What took so long you ask? Steve, having returned the U-haul soon found out the awesome Bush administration style incompetence the roast-beef lipped bitches of U-haul Boston are capable of, ie, wrong truck, wrong place, wrong time, therefore, big problems that take an hour to waste (not resolve) over the phone. Steve, angrier Nicholas Cage in Wickerman, eventually said Suck on THIS U-haul and we left.

The Most Awesome Traffic of All-Time

4.7 miles in 1.7 hours. Yea, that was amazing. The Gypsy West eventually got to the venue. Not on time, however, we had arrived. In the process of arriving, we lost Matt Smith, to the wolves of Steve Jobs seeing as we had arrived too late to play our 9pm set and had to be moved to a later set and Matt had to catch an 1130 bus home so he could make it to work in the morning. God forbid all you consumerist hipsters and rich pricks dont have your iPhones. And by the way, if you're not from this country YOU CANT GET ONE. THEY ONLY USE AT&T. ITS A MONOPOLY. THATS THE POINT.

Uncle Mike's

Not a bad place, people who worked there were super nice. Everything seemed cool until Steve and I went on to play two songs that rocked too hard for the place and they got a noise complaint and we had to stop. Landmine kicked ass basically. We missed you Matt.

Epilogue/Moral of the Story

Fuck U-haul. They witches that secretly rule that company cast a spell on Steve's beard that screwed up our whole day and show and left me pissing on the side of the road. That was too tangential to fit in. Thank you for all of you who came and then left and to all of those who watched and enjoyed. We'll see all of you at Arlene's on the 13th of September.

-Alex

Spring is coming - March 25, 2008

So, recent in the life of the Gypsy West. Our tour, was interesting. We all had fun, except for Matt cause he became near-deathly-ill which in turn got Steve and Claire Dowd (our road manager) deathly ill. I, however, survived the plague.

Aside from that, we played some cool places like the Living Room in Providence, The Oasis, WERS, to name a few. Anyway, we're going to be playing a bunch of shows again in May and June in New York City, New London, and Boston with Hello Tokyo, from Brooklyn. We'll also be rocking those places out with some new material as well. Cool eh?

You can get our cd and t-shirts and stuff through our website here, there's more info about the PayPal thing on here somewhere. More information to come....

In other news, we now have a whole slew of shows in March, including a performance at the All Asia in Cambridge, MA. We will also be appearing on 88.9 WERS on March 24th. Check the Calendar section for more info on all that.
